Affinity credit card program pays big dividends for Ducks Unlimited Canada

MBNA Canada Bank partnership raises $1 million for wetland conservation

Oak Hammock Marsh, Manitoba, May 18, 2006—Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is pleased to announce that its affinity MasterCard program, a partnership with MBNA Canada Bank, has paid real dividends for wetland conservation, generating over  $1 million for DUC over the past eight years. With such a strong foundation in place, the two organizations recently renewed their partnership for another 10 years.

The DUC MasterCard was MBNA Canada Bank’s first affinity credit card program in Canada. Each time a DUC MasterCard holder makes a purchase with the card, MBNA Canada Bank makes a financial contribution to DUC. Use of the DUC MasterCard, featuring a colourful image of a drake mallard leaping to flight, also helps to promote the DUC name and organization.

“Our partnership with MBNA Canada Bank is a milestone, not only because it was the first of its kind in Canada, but also because it’s been a great success in generating much-needed revenue for our wetland conservation work,” says Stephen Tonning, DUC’s national manager of corporate relations. “This program yields benefits to DUC by raising money and growing awareness of who we are and our wetland conservation mission. We are very pleased with the results of this partnership, and proud to extend it into the future.”

Through its corporate relations program, DUC builds cause-marketing partnerships with companies seeking to align their products and services with millions of conservation-minded Canadians. These programs generate funds for wetland conservation, but they also help to raise awareness about DUC and wetland conservation by promoting the DUC name and logo in the general consumer marketplace.

Canadians can support DUC’s wetland conservation work by signing up for a DUC MasterCard. There is no annual fee for the DUC MasterCard, and every time it is used, much-needed dollars are donated to DUC at no cost to the cardholder.

Since 1938, DUC has conserved, restored and managed wetlands and their associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl. These habitats also benefit other wildlife and people.
