Lieutenant Governor Presents Wetland Conservation Award

Lieutenant Governor’s Greenwing Conservation Award recognizes contributions to wetland conservation in Saskatchewan

Regina , Sask. , October 12, 2005—Her Honour Dr. Lynda Haverstock, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, presented the province’s 2005 Lieutenant Governor’s Greenwing Conservation Award to Dick Henders today for his long time volunteer service as a fundraiser for wetland conservation.

Awarded annually and sponsored by Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), the Lieutenant Governor’s Greenwing Conservation Award recognizes individuals or groups who have contributed to public awareness of wetland conservation in Saskatchewan, or demonstrated outstanding volunteer service in assisting organizations that benefit wetland conservation.

At the Award Presentation, the Lieutenant Governor stated, “We are already benefiting from the contributions of today’s nominees, but the full impact of their visionary work will be experienced by generations yet to come.”

Mr. Henders lives in Estevan, Saskatchewan and is being recognized for over 25 years of volunteer service as a fundraiser and board member for DUC. Since the 1970’s, Dick has been involved in raising funds and awareness for wetland conservation and served on the DU Canada Board of Directors from 1985 to 2001.

“It’s an honour to be presented with the Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor’s Greenwing Conservation Award,” said Henders. “I’m proud to have been a volunteer for Ducks Unlimited Canada and to do my part in preserving wetlands and waterfowl in my community.”

Peter Carton , President of Ducks Unlimited Canada added, “It is largely through Dick’s dedication and tireless service that DU Canada has had the resources and community support to deliver wetland conservation programs across Saskatchewan. Dick’s influence has been felt throughout every area of Ducks Unlimited Canada’s conservation efforts, including research, education and habitat programs. Dick is, without a doubt, one of our finest ambassadors for wetland and waterfowl conservation across the country.”
