Our Wetland and Wildlife Conservation Progress

Ducks Unlimited Canada’s (DUC) wetland conservation efforts have gained the trust and respect of Canadians. With the help of people like you, DUC has made many conservation gains in Canada:

  • DUC has been conserving wetland habitats in Canada since 1938
  • DUC is active in every province and territory
  • DUC conducts conservation activities, including:
    • restoration, securement and management of wetlands and associated habitats
    • wetland and waterfowl research
    • public education

DUC is committed to the conservation of Canada’s wetlands and associated habitats:

  • More than 88 per cent of all dollars received by DUC is invested in habitat conservation, research and education.
  • DUC has secured 6.0 million acres of habitat through land purchase, management agreements, conservation easements and leases.
  • DUC has positively influenced 47 million acres of habitat through retention or restoration measures of less than 10 years or through policy.
  • DUC has completed 8,400 habitat projects.
    • These projects represent 26,600 project segments, which are different conservation activities that DUC completes on a project.
  • DUC works in partnership with 18,300 landowners across the country to conserve habitat.

DUC relies on the grassroots support of Canadians like you:

  • DUC’s wetland conservation mission receives support from hunting and non-hunting conservationists. These people realize the importance of saving Canada’s habitats for the benefit of wildlife and people.
  • DUC holds 551 annual fundraising events across Canada.
    • These events are attended by 75,000 people.
  • DUC is supported by 173,000 people nationally.
  • 7,400 people support DUC as volunteers.
  • 54,232 youth (age 17 and under) are enrolled in DUC’s youth education programs.
