BC’s Georgia Basin estuaries represent some of the world’s most productive habitats. But they are at high risk of loss due to urban and industrial development as well as changing agricultural trends.

Help save these wetlands by donating to our Wetlands for Tomorrow campaign!

Fraser River Plateau & Columbia River Basin

DUC’s focus in these important ecological areas is to protect wetland and riparian areas and to provide perennial or native grass cover for wildlife throughout the plateaus and valleys of the region’s rangelands, forestlands and agricultural producing areas.

Fraser River Plateau & the Columbia River Basin mapLocated in the southern intermountain of British Columbia, these ecological regions contain a diversity of habitats including wetland complexes important to 26 species of breeding and staging ducks as well as Canada geese.

This area is particularly important to a large proportion of the continental breeding population of Barrow’s goldeneye, as well as to most of the province’s threatened and endangered wildlife and plants that are found in the grasslands and valley bottom of the Okanagan.

DUC is actively working with government, First Nations groups, forest companies, ranchers and urban planners to protect wetland values while still maintaining viable resource use.
