This project area sits within the Mackenzie Valley of the Northwest Territories and is bordered by the Mackenzie Mountains and Great Bear Lake. All field operations for this project are now complete. A final waterbird report is expected by spring/summer 2004.
Status
2000
The final vegetation landcover report and products of this project area were completed and delivered to all project partners.
2001
Water chemistry sampling was completed.
2002/03
The third of three years of waterbird surveys ended in summer 2002, with a final report produced following an interim report which in spring 2003. Highlights for this area for waterbirds include Brackett Lake (locally called Willow Lake), a significant spring and fall staging and breeding area for waterbirds. Lesser scaup and pacific loons are breeding in large numbers within the Willow Lake area.
