This eight million-acre mountainous region in the southern Yukon Territory has a surprisingly high number of breeding waterbirds. The Southern Lakes project is now entering its third and final year.
Status
1999
The Yukon Southern Lakes Landcover and Waterbird Inventory Project was initiated.
2000
Fieldwork activities began and included a waterbird survey and landcover inventory.
2001
Final products from the landcover classification were completed in June.
2002
The Southern Lakes project field work was completed. We are currently working on the final project report.
