IWWR - 20 Years of Science Guiding Conservation2011 Ducks Unliversity Participants

Confessions of a Ducks U Grad

IWWR scientists and DU professionals often share their knowledge of wetland and waterfowl ecology at events such as "Ducks University". "Ducks U" gives students a sense of what it's like to be a duck, as well as a better understanding of the unique challenges to conservation efforts. In this conservator.ca article, "Ducks U" grad Meagan Hainstock shares some of her first-hand insights into what she learned at a unique outdoor learning experience held in Alberta in May 2011.

20 Years of Science Guiding Conservation

The Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research (IWWR), the scientific research arm of DUC, is celebrating 20 years of science guiding conservation.

IWWR has been around since March of 1991 and has helped guide Ducks Unlimited’s conservation programs though cutting-edge science ever since.

IWWR focuses on the problems facing North America’s waterfowl. By marrying DUC’s conservation management experience with science, DUC is able to quickly transfer new information into on-the-ground solutions to conservation problems, and to continually adapt programs for increased efficiency. This unique capability provides a strong strategic advantage for DUC.

In its 20 years, IWWR has led or participated in nearly 300 studies throughout North America, while helping to train graduate students from over 40 universities, and collaborating with more than 45 external research agencies.

IWWR provides leadership in wetland research through:
