Library Information
Library Policies
Members of the general public can make an appointment to view any of the publications in IWWR's Research Library. The library cannot lend materials directly to the public.
Library Circulation Policy
Ducks Unlimited Staff
Head office staff may borrow materials for as long as they are needed. A list of materials checked out to head office staff will be provided once a year in January to facilitate the return of unneeded library materials.
Field office and DU Inc. staff may borrow materials for a period of 45 days; they may request an unlimited number of renewals of any materials they still require.
Graduate students
To check out library materials the graduate student’s Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) supervisor or collaborating staff member must provide the librarian with a library privileges authorization form. The individual authorizing their student’s library privileges is also assuming financial responsibility for any lost, badly damaged or unreturned materials. The student may borrow materials for an initial period of 45 days and can renew for three consecutive 45-day periods. These materials are subject to recall at any time, should a DUC or DU Inc. staff member request them.
Recall Policy
All materials are subject to recall at the discretion of the librarian should another DUC or DU Inc. staff member request them. All materials will be loaned for a minimum of 45 days. Should an urgent need for loaned materials arise, the librarian may request the return of loaned materials before the loan period has expired. In non-urgent circumstances, the librarian will issue a recall for loaned items upon the expiration of the loan period. The librarian can also acquire needed materials through interlibrary loan if the requesting staff member cannot wait to receive the materials they requested.
Replacement of lost or damaged materials
If any of the materials loaned to an individual is lost or badly damaged, the replacement cost of materials over $50 will be cost-recovered with coding from the employee. All cost recovery actions must be preapproved by the library committee or the librarian’s supervisor.
Loaning materials to the public and outside organizations
The public and outside agencies may borrow materials only by making an interlibrary loan request.
Interlibrary Loan Policy
Internal requests
All DUC and DU Inc. staff may make interlibrary loan and document delivery requests at no charge up to $35 per item. Should the requested material cost more than $35, the requesting staff member will be contacted to determine the urgency of the requested material. Due to the rising cost of many interlibrary loan materials, a policy of five interlibrary loan materials per month or 60 interlibrary loan materials per staff member per year is being implemented as of August 1, 2009. Allowances will be made for materials required for priority projects.
External requests
Individuals and organizations outside of DUC and DU Inc. may request library materials through their library (public or corporate) via interlibrary loan. All materials are subject to a loan period of 21 days from the date of receipt with the possibility of one renewal of 21 days. Historical documents will not be made available for loan. All materials are subject to recall during the renewal period.
At this time, the library will not charge for interlibrary loans. Libraries will be charged replacement costs for lost or badly damaged materials.
All requests will be filled at the discretion of the librarian.
