Spatial and Temporal Variation in Nest Success of Prairie Ducks (SpATS) Study
Ducks Unlimited Canada’s (DUC) wetland and waterfowl conservation work is guided by scientific research, through DUC’s science arm, the Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research (IWWR).
One of IWWR’s research initiatives, Spatial and Temporal Variation in Nest Success of Prairie Ducks (SpATS), is a long-term study on how nesting success of Prairie waterfowl varies in relation to landscape composition throughout the Prairie Pothole Region (PPR).
The SpATS study has two central goals:
- To evaluate conservation programs in the PPR.
- To find out whether the amount of perennial vegetation (plant cover for nesting ducks) on a landscape is the main factor determining waterfowl nesting success.
