DUC’s online land auction preview now on

Oak Hammock Marsh, Man., July 7, 2010 – Potential bidders now have the chance to preview the Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) lands being sold through DUC’s upcoming online land auction August 10-12, 2010. Proceeds from this second annual online auction will be put back into DUC programs to help us achieve our conservation objectives.

Featured in this auction will be 10 agricultural (perennial forage) and recreational parcels in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The sale of the properties in Alberta and Saskatchewan is an effort to ensure the conservation land owned by DUC has maximum waterfowl value and to minimize habitat asset management costs. In Manitoba, the properties are part of DUC’s Revolving Conservation Habitat Program, and were purchased with the intent to sell them publicly with a conservation agreement attached after restoration was completed. Where possible, existing habitat on lands up for auction will be conserved through a conservation easement or agreement. Conservation easements have been an effective and viable conservation tool which was not in place when we were buying land in the 1990s.

Previews and information on the land auction is available at www.ducks.ca/landauction. Preview includes a description of the land, photos, conditions of sale and auction rules and will run up to and including the day of the auction. Auction starts Tuesday, August 10th at 8:00 a.m. CDT and closes Thursday, August 12th.
