“I believe you should try to help your community if you're fortunate enough to have that opportunity.

I think you should leave something behind.”

John E. Poole Conservation Fund

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) has launched the John E. Poole Conservation Fund in honour of the late John Poole. The fund is aiming to raise a total of $5 million to support wetland conservation and restoration initiatives in Alberta.

One of these first initiatives honours John and Barbara Poole’s love of education and community - The John E. Poole Wetland. Inspired by the Poole family and PCL Constructors Inc. of Edmonton, this site is located on the east shore of Big Lake. This extensive “outdoor classroom” project  includes trails, a boardwalk, and interpretive signage to educate visitors about wetland ecosystems, and waterfowl and other wildlife that frequent the site.

Scheduled to open in the fall of 2011, the John E. Poole Wetland provides a much needed wetland education destination in the capital region of Alberta.
