Protecting Your Natural Lands
DUC works with Alberta landowners and land-users to protect natural lands and environments. Landowners serve as stewards of the land to improve the productiveness of a landscape for waterfowl, and to preserve or restore the ecological function of landscapes.
Some of the ways to protect natural land are land donation, land donation and conservation easements. A conservation easement (PDF, 177 KB) is a legal agreement between a landowner and a conservation organization like DUC whereby an area of land is protected in perpetuity by limiting the amount and type of development that can occur on the property.
Protecting natural lands provides all Albertans with benefits such as improved water quality, better protection from severe flood and drought, and greater natural diversity in plants and animals.
DUC is committed to constantly evaluating and adapting its conservation practices in response to scientific research, new information obtained or arising circumstances.
