Dave Kay and John Kolk signing the partnership agreement
The agricultural Industry in Alberta is focused on environmental stewardship. Land, water and biodiversity are fundamental building blocks of the industry.

Did You Know?

Wetlands help control flooding by storing large amounts of water: 4/10 of a hectare of wetlands can store over 6,000 cubic metres of floodwater. When wetlands are destroyed, the probability of flooding and floodwater damage increases significantly.

Alberta Environmental Farm Plan

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) and the Alberta Environmental Farm Plan (AEFP) Company signed a corporate partners’ agreement in July 2006 to mutually support, collaborate and promote environmental farm plans and beneficial management practices to Alberta’s agricultural community.

The AEFP Company and DUC regard the farmer/landowner as the key stewards of land and water resources and the center of both organizations’ efforts.  More than 7000 Alberta producers have become involved in the process in Alberta.

The AEFP Company is the implementation arm for the Agriculture Policy Framework (APF) in Alberta. Producers volunteer to conduct an EFP which identifies environmental strengths and weaknesses of their farming operations.  Among other things, the plan identifies an action plan and opportunities for enhancements which are often eligible for funding under the Canada – Alberta Farm Stewardship Plan.
