Working together for the future of our students and Canada’s wetlands
Calgary, Alta., March 10, 2009—More students will get their feet wet this year as Ducks Unlimited Canada looks forward to the second year of its five-year partnership with Talisman Energy. In 2008, Talisman sponsored more than 2,600 students for Project Webfoot. An estimated 2,800 students will take part in the program this year. The $500,000 partnership will assist DUC in delivering Project Webfoot to approximately 14,000 students in communities within Talisman’s operating areas across Canada.
“We are proud to sponsor this program and to partner with Ducks,” says Ron Eckhardt, Executive Vice-President, North America Operations for Calgary-based Talisman. “This is a great experience for these students who will learn to appreciate and value Canada’s wetlands in their communities.”
Jerry Brunen, head of education for DUC’s Western Region, echoes the importance of a hands-on wetlands program. “In turn, we hope that these students will have a better understanding of wetland conservation and be able to make important decisions on the environment throughout their lives.”
Talisman has been a DUC donor since 2004. This new sponsorship encompasses schools in Chetwynd, BC; Chauvin, Edson, Turner Valley, Grande Cache, Grande Prairie and Warburg, AB; Shaunavon and Carlyle, SK; and Leamington, ON.
Wetlands are important and present across Canada, and are often taught as part of elementary science curriculum. Project Webfoot is designed to spark students’ interests and integrate the environmental issues and concerns that are important to the local community. Through Project Webfoot, Talisman and DUC are working together to help today’s youth conserve wetlands for tomorrow.
