Education

Ducks Unlimited Canada’s education programs provide school classes with the resources they need to explore wetland values, conservation programs and the great outdoors. The future of wetland conservation relies on our ability to interest and engage our students. Our national programs range from the establishment of environmental studies programs in schools, the provision of free classroom resource kits, teacher training workshops and the delivery of wetland field study programs to school classes. Sponsor funding makes these programs possible.

In British Columbia, our highest priority is to make students in metropolitan areas more aware of the value of healthy ecosystems and to give them first hand experiences through field trips to local wetlands. For example, in Victoria, students visit the Swan Lake Christmas Hill Sanctuary for their wetland field trips and many of our classes in the Vancouver area visit the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary and the Serpentine Wildlife Area.

In addition to the formal delivery of programs to registered classes, DUC recognizes that many of BC’s nature centres have wetland programming. Where possible, DUC supports these with wetland management programs, information handouts, interpretive signs or education program partnerships.
