Habitat Reports

Throughout the year, DUC monitors wetland and upland habitat conditions in British Columbia. The information is gathered using a variety of sources, including Agriculture Canada (PFRA) Drought Watch, the BC Government Snow Survey, Environment Canada Weather Office, and local DUC staff knowledge. The habitat reports also include waterfowl population data where available.

At different times of the year, DUC habitat reports emphasize different types of information, to better reflect seasonal trends relating to habitat and bird populations. For example, snow accumulation is assessed in the winter months, runoff conditions are examined in the spring, production is estimated in the summer, and hunting prospects are assessed in the fall.

Habitat conditions throughout the country are compiled into a national report that is available to the public twice per year.
