Wetland conservation maps are used to identify and characterize the various types of wetlands and the pressures they face.

Wetland Mapping
How many wetlands are there in the BC? Where are they located? What are their values to wildlife?
These questions may seem pretty basic, but currently there is no comprehensive map of wetlands in the BC Interior, let alone detailed information about their size, type, vegetation, and water quality.
DUC is currently creating a database of wetland information for BC’s intermountain region. DUC will use the database to help identify priority wetlands for conservation, and to develop a better understanding of the relationships between waterfowl and wetlands.
A multi-year project, the database will include information from the 6,000 wetlands that DUC staff has previously visited in the region. Over time DUC will conduct fieldwork to fill in missing information. The database will be shared with government, industry, and other non-profit organizations to ensure wetland habitats are included in plans for urban development, storm water management, forestry, agriculture, protection of species at risk, and other land uses.
