Pacific Coast Joint Venture (PCJV)

Ducks Unlimited Canada is a partner in The Pacific Coast Joint Venture (PCJV). The PCJV is an international partnership, established in 1991, to help ensure the long-term maintenance of coastal wetland ecosystems. These wetlands and associated uplands are essential to the survival of wintering and migrating populations of waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors, salmon and other marine life and the unique biological diversity of the west coast.

An important international priority of the PCJV has been to protect, restore, and enhance the natural integrity of coastal wetlands. The focus in British Columbia has been on the Fraser River delta and the east coast of Vancouver Island. These two areas have the majority of the province’s population, and most of the uplands and freshwater wetlands are privately owned.

The accomplishments of the PCJV could not have been possible without the partnerships developed among many agencies, organizations and local groups. In fact, pooling of financial resources and management capabilities among the public and private partners has been an essential element in being able to design and implement effective coastal habitat projects.

Operation Orange

One of the projects of the PCJV is Operation Orange, a scientific survey the partnership is carrying out to track the pesky spartina weed that is choking the Pacific shoreline and endangering native species. Find out more about this project.
