San Jose River Watershed
The San Jose River Watershed includes nearly 25,000 hectares of lakes and wetlands, and is home to approximately 31,000 breeding waterfowl. This abundance of waterfowl habitat in the San Jose Watershed led Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) to make this area a priority for program delivery in recent years. In 2004, DUC entered a partnership with the Cariboo Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) to assist agricultural producers in completing projects that benefit both their operation and wetlands.
Through education, awareness, and demonstration, DUC is working with landowners to effect land management and development practices in the San Jose watershed with a goal of recognizing these landowners as good stewards of the land because they understand water quality and riparian habitat.
