Nova Scotia Lieutenant Governor's Greenwing Award – BACKGROUNDER

Awarded annually and sponsored by Ducks Unlimited Canada, the Lieutenant Governor's Greenwing Award is presented to an individual, company or organization demonstrating:

  • Leadership in a project or activity that has contributed significantly to the public awareness of the value of conservation of wetlands in Nova Scotia
  • Outstanding volunteer service to assist an organization or community-based program or project, which benefits wetland conservation in Nova Scotia.
  • Leadership in an education project or activity, which has increased the public's awareness and understanding of the values of wetland ecosystems to Nova Scotia and their benefit to waterfowl, wildlife and people.

Nomination Eligibility and Procedure:

  1. Individuals or organizations can be nominated for the award. Paid employees of Ducks Unlimited Canada are not eligible.
  2. The name of the individual, company or an organization being nominated must be forwarded by mail, e-mail or fax to:

Eligibility Criteria

Please ensure your nominee meets the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated leadership in a project or activity that has contributed significantly to the public awareness of the value of conservation of wetlands in Nova Scotia.
  • Outstanding volunteer service to assist an organization or community-based program or project, which benefits wetland conservation in Nova Scotia.
  • Demonstrated leadership in an education project or activity, which has increased the public's awareness and understanding of the values of wetland ecosystems to Nova Scotia and their benefit to waterfowl, other wildlife and people.

SELECTION COMMITTEE

The following selection committee shall make the recommendation to the Lieutenant Governor:

i. Senior Ducks Unlimited Canada Nova Scotia Director

ii. Province of Nova Scotia Minister of Natural Resources or his designate

iii. Executive Director of the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Center, Acadia University.

It is agreed and understood that the sponsor may alter this committee with respect to iii provided however any new appointment shall not be an employee, officer or director of Ducks Unlimited Canada.

If a nomination is being considered for the award with which a member of the selection committee is affiliated, he or she will not participate in the final decision making on that submission.
