Artwork Submission Guidelines
Guidelines and criteria for submitting artwork to the National Art Portfolio
Submission Guidelines
Submission deadline is July 16, 2010
Before sending your submission to us, please review the following tips and requirements.
- Submissions must represent original artwork created from the artist's own reference material.
- Artists may submit up to 10 images, for multiples please list all pertinent information per image and attach to submission form.
- Submissions may be provided in slide or digitally on CD.
- It is strongly advised to remove frames and matting for photography and mask out any background that might distract during viewing.
- Slides to be 35mm colour slides, no glass mounted slides.
- Digital submissions to be on a CD. Images are to be minimum 5"x7" at 300 dpi in JPG, TIF or PSD file format.
- All slides and CDs are to be labelled with artist’s name and entry title.
- Slides and CDs of artwork not selected will not be returned, so please be sure to have duplicates made prior to entry.
- Multiple submissions can be on one CD.
Submitted artwork will be considered for inclusion in DUC’s NAP based on the requirements for each category. Once the portfolio artists are chosen, those artists wishing to participate in the NAP will be required to agree to the terms of DUC’s Reproduction Agreement.
It is preferred, but not necessary, for DUC to have the original piece of art for printing. Professionally shot, high resolution digital files or transparencies with reference can be used. Artists will receive print press approval.
When portfolio artists receive the “artist’s proofs” of their work, they may begin selling them as they see fit ONE YEAR AFTER the 2010 DUC fundraising year has opened.
Artists are encouraged to continue sending entries to DUC in the future. Many DUC Portfolio Artists have been accepted into the NAP on more than one occasion. Portfolio Artists who have been selected previously will attain Alumni status and are entitled to a $1,000 honorarium for each of their images selected for inclusion in future NAPs. Your continued submissions help greatly to strengthen the diversity and appeal of DUC’s NAP.
NAP categories
There are three categories under which your artwork can be admitted to DUC’s NAP. Note: in all categories the artist retains their original, meaning available pieces as well as those sold or not available can be considered in all categories.
National Artist of the Year
One artist will be chosen as DUC's National Artist of the Year, and a minimum edition size of 2,000 will be produced. Artwork for this category can feature wildlife, waterfowl, dogs, equine, fishing, hunting, camping and cabin scenes. The 2011 DUC Artist of the Year will receive an honorarium of $5,000 and 100 artist proofs.
Waterfowl Stamp and Print
Each year, DUC selects one waterfowl piece that will be made into a special print and stamp set. Of course, the subject for this category is limited to single species waterfowl. This print will be reproduced with a traditional and collectible 6 1/2” x 9” image size. An edition of 750 will be produced and the Waterfowl Stamp Artist will receive an honorarium of $1,000 and 75 artist proofs.
Portfolio Artists
DUC will select between 10-12 pieces for the NAP, which will be reproduced in editions greater than 1,000. Artwork for the category can feature wildlife, waterfowl, dogs, equine, fishing, hunting, camping and cabin scenes. All Portfolio Artists will receive 100 artist proofs, with Alumni (previous NAP) artists
selected in this category receiving an honorarium of $1,000 per image selected in subsequent NAPs.
After the 2011 NAP images have been selected for each category, all remaining submissions will be forwarded to their respective provincial chapters for consideration in provincial projects.
DUC now accepts submission of images that have been previously produced in giclee form. DUC only assumes copyright for the image in the format we reproduce. In the 2011 NAP year:
- The Artist of the Year retains their original and receives an honorarium of $5,000
- Any NAP artist who has been selected previously and is returning to the NAP will achieve Alumni status and recieve a $1,000 honorarium per image selected in subsequent NAPs
- The Waterfowl Stamp and Print Artist receives a $1,000 honorarium
