What is video stock footage?
Stock footage is another name for video shots which are available for licensing use by various producers. The license agreements are based on the type of usage and rates for use vary accordingly.
What does licensing mean?
When clients decide to use our footage, they agree to license it for a specific period of time for a particular project. Any footage provided remains the property of Ducks Unlimited Canada and may not be resold to other companies or individuals. The client does not purchase the image or footage, but pays for the rights to use the image. Usage licenses are issued only after payment has been received.
Ducks Unlimited Canada provides for three types of licensing:
- Footage for exclusive international broadcast (cannot be sold to other commercial users)
- Footage for nonexclusive international broadcast and/or commercial use
- Footage for nonprofit use

How does one preview and order stock footage?
Our library of stock footage features a search engine that makes it convenient and easy to locate and identify shots. All shots are individually identified and time coded. This time code becomes your order number and also allows you to determine the length of each shot.
Each shot begins with the beginning time code number and ends at the commencement of the next shot. Each shot is also represented by a jpg image of the shot. Clients wishing to view the entire shot may order a VHS time code demo of the shot and any others they may be interested in viewing. The actual broadcast quality tape will not have the burned in time code information and will be on a high quality digitally transferred sub-master tape. All major production formats are available.
Where does my money go?
Proceeds from the sale of all WildThings stock video footage is directed toward Ducks Unlimited's habitat conservation programs in Canada. DU is a private nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to the conservation of wetlands for the benefit of North America's waterfowl, wildlife and people. Over the past 60 years, DU has invested $930 million into conserving Canada's threatened habitats.
