Wetlands in the Classroom—Free Lesson Plans for Students

Today’s young people are tomorrow’s conservation leaders! Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) wants to help you learn about wildlife and wetland conservation through Project Webfoot, DUC’s curriculum-based wetland and environmental education program for students.

By learning about wetland habitats, we’ll help you get involved in conserving these endangered spaces for future generations.

DUC has developed three wetland education units—the Wetland Ecosystems series. These fun, interactive and free lesson plans will help you learn about wetlands and why they are so important for wildlife and your own health and well being.

You’ll be able to get down and dirty with wetlands and develop skills that will stay with you for a lifetime! There are three units, with elementary lesson plans (grades 4-6), middle school lesson plans (grades 7-8) and high school lesson plans (senior 1-4 or grades 9-12).

You can use these resources in class with your teacher or use them to learn at a wetland near your home. Be sure to have fun and stay safe during your explorations, and always have an adult accompany you to a wetland or water area. Each unit comes with a student journal, just for you, and an educator’s guide for your teacher or parents. There are three units to choose from:

Download these units today and dive into the wonderful world of wetlands! You can also purchase the full-colour, professionally-bound lesson plans at the Marsh Shop for a minimal fee.
