Gananoque Provincial Wildlife Area
Located just west of the town of Gananoque and only 20 minutes east of Kingston along the 401, this Marquee project is highly accessible and will provide a unique project for residents and visitors to the area.
The 1,500 acres Gananoque Provincial Wildlife Areawas established in the 1960s to provide wildlife habitat and outdoor recreational opportunities for the general public. Once actively managed for wildlife and outdoor recreation, the roads and trails have since deteriorated to the point that they no longer provide access to the public.
We've challenged ourselves to complete 75 conservation projects across the province in DUC's 75th anniversary year!
With three DUC wetland projects already in the area, we are looking to consolidate and expand the Gananoque Provincial Wildlife Area to ensure the wetlands vital to waterfowl and other wildlife are protected and to restore additional drained wetlands. However before it is ready for the public, the area is in need of major upgrading that will require leadership to return this incredible wildlife area to what it once was.
DUC needs your financial support to leverage furtherinvestments from partners to repair the existing projects and restore wetlands on any newly acquired lands. Your support of our work will ensure that the landscapes across southern Ontario remain healthy to support waterfowl, wildlife and people.
