The Opportunity
Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), Canada’s leader in wetland conservation, is looking for a confident and dedicated individual to join our team in Williams Lake, BC.
Working with DUC BC’s energetic small team of biologists and engineering staff, you will be responsible for managing dams and water controls on 320+ DUC wetlands in the Cariboo-Chilcotin, Omineca and Skeena regions. This will be achieved by a combination of carrying out inspections and maintenance yourself, as well as directing other staff and contractors. These are activities that appeal to you because you love a balance of office work and field work, and love to see remote parts of BC.
Additionally, you will assist with scheduling and coordinating the acquisition of materials, heavy equipment and labour required for major construction jobs in these regions.
Forming and maintaining relationships with landowners, agricultural producers, project partners and contractors in remote communities will be key to success in this position. To this end, you are an effective communicator who is able to build positive working relationships.
You love working outdoors and have an aptitude for operating equipment and fixing things. You are self-motivated, organized, and can manage numerous projects simultaneously.
Experience and related knowledge in performing field inspections and managing a suite of land-based assets would be strong assets to performing the duties of this position. Practical experience with water control structures, construction work, agriculture, biology and/or engineering, would all be considered assets to the position.
Additional details
- One full time position available to be based in Williams Lake, BC
- Starting Salary Range $49,100.00 to $55,200.00, dependent on applicable experience.
- Potential start date July 4th, 2022
Requirements
- A post-secondary diploma in a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
- Experience operating various equipment such as: ATV/UTV, chainsaws, brush saws, pumps, and hand tools
- Basic mechanical aptitude, or willingness to learn
- Ability to work long/flexible hours, in remote locations, in a variety of weather conditions, with frequent overnight travel
- Experience managing contracts and contractors; solid planning, administrative, reporting and budgeting skills
- Experience with MS Office, field navigation and/or data collection apps
- A valid class 5 driver’s license
- The successful candidate will be required to submit proof of COVID-19 Vaccination
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written
Nice to Have
- Experience towing trailers
- Experience with heavy equipment supervision & materials procurement
- Awareness of BC Occupational Health and Safety practices
- Understanding of the BC Water Sustainability Act & Dam Safety Regulation, and best management practices
- An understanding of local agricultural, industry or conservation practices
