The Opportunity

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), one of Canada’s leading conservation organizations, is looking for a Conservation Technician to join our Atlantic Regional Team in St. John’s, NL.

The Technician will assist with DUC conservation programs and support public engagement initiatives.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting research on key wetland plant species for ecological restoration in NL
  • Creating social media content (including video) about wetlands and riparian areas
  • Organizing a wetland clean up and engaging in other public outreach opportunities
  • Assisting with field work to identify and evaluate wetland restoration opportunities
  • Assisting with wetland functional assessments and data entry
  • Assisting DUC staff with ongoing office work as needed

The Details

  • Expected term of employment is up to 18 weeks beginning in May 2021
  • Salary is $15.00/hour for 35-hours per week
  • This position requires travel within the Northeast Avalon Region
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required
  • The position is based out of the St. John’s office but may also involve working from home

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for wetland and wildlife conservation
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Enjoy working outdoors in various conditions
  • Knowledge of wetland plants and ecosystems
  • Experience planning and conducting field work
  • Proficient with use of Microsoft Excel, Google Earth and other common computer applications
  • Eligible applicants must be under 30 as required by Canada Summer Jobs funding
  • Possess valid first aid and CPR training
  • Have a valid driver’s license; access to own vehicle an asset
