Summer Employment Opportunity (pending funding)

The Opportunity

Based at the Wetland Centre at the Shubenacadie Wildllife Park, the Nature Interpreter will assist with DUC and Department of Lands and Forestry Wetland Education Programs, both on-site and throughout Nova Scotia.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering educational programming at the Wetland Centre
  • Traveling to various wetland sites in Nova Scotia to deliver outdoor field trips
  • Assisting with various wetland education activities and events
  • Assisting with Wetland Centre upkeep, trails, gift shop preparation, or other administrative tasks as needed
  • Compiling feedback of education programs
  • Assisting with the care of small animals (such as aquatic insects and reptiles)

The Details

  • Expected term of employment is 8 or more weeks (pending funding), beginning in early May 2019
  • Salary is $14.00-$15.00/hr, based on a 35-hour week
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • This position involves traveling in NS.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with youth and/or the public
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Enthusiasm for the environment, wildlife, and conservation
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of wildlife/wetland ecosystems, Dept. of L&F, or DUC operations is an asset
  • Bilingualism is an asset (English and French, or English and another language)
  • Registration as a full-time post-secondary student with intention to return full-time studies in the fall, and between the ages of 15 and 30 at the time of job commencement (Canada Summer Jobs requirement)
  • Possess valid first aid and CPR training
  • Be willing to complete Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Records Check
