Conservation Technician – St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador

Summer Employment Opportunity (pending funding)

The Opportunity

Based out of our St. John’s Conservation Office, the Conservation Technician will assist with Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) Wetland Education Programs, represent DUC at community outreach events and support ongoing conservation projects.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing support to DUC’s Wetland Education Programs
  • Traveling to various sites in NL to deliver wetland field trips with grade 4 students
  • Assisting with various education and outreach activities and events
  • Assisting DUC staff with ongoing office and field work as needed

Details

  •  Expected term of employment is 7 or more weeks (pending funding), beginning in late May 2019
  •  Salary is $14-$15.00/hr, based on a 35-hour week
  •  Some evening and weekend work may be required
  •  This position involves travelling in NL

Qualifications

  • Experience working with youth and/or the public
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Enthusiasm for the outdoors, wildlife, and environmental conservation
  • Possess a valid driver’s license; access to own vehicle is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of wildlife/wetland ecosystems is an asset
  • Bilingualism is an asset (English and French, or English and another language)
  • Registration as a full-time post-secondary student with intention to return full-time studies in the fall, and between the ages of 15 and 30 at the time of job commencement (Canada Summer Jobs requirement)
  • Possess valid first aid and CPR training
  • Be willing to complete Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Records Check
