The Opportunity
Ducks Unlimited Canada’s Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research (IWWR) is seeking a Wetland Research Technician for a one-year position. In this position you will gain experience on research projects measuring biodiversity and waterfowl responses to wetland restorations. Ducks Unlimited Canada conserves, restores and manages wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl. These habitats also benefit other wildlife and people.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Assist Research Scientists and Research Biologists in the collection of field data on waterfowl and biodiversity supporting the mission and conservation vision of Ducks Unlimited Canada.
- Assist in organizing, managing, and annotating field data from camera trapping and autonomous recording units.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining field equipment.
- As a DUC ambassador, assist in delivering conservation messages, primarily with external audiences, that will establish and/or maintain stakeholder or partner relationships
Requirements
- Must be able to perform field work and cope with poor weather. Overnight and extended travel away from home will be required;
- Possess a valid driver’s license;
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in biology or environmental studies;
- Must also be comfortable reading and understanding scientific literature;
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs;
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task;
- Experience collecting field data is an asset;
- The successful candidate will be required to submit proof of COVID-19 Vaccination
The successful candidate will ideally have an affinity for the outdoors and a passion for conservation. This position will be based at our national headquarters located at Oak Hammock Marsh, near Stonewall, Manitoba.
The gross salary for this position is $31,000 – 38,800, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date for this position is between February 15 – 28, 2023.
