A new collaboration to promote Canada's sustainable agriculture initiatives.

About the Partnership

Loblaw’s support will help enable Ducks Unlimited Canada’s agronomists to work directly with grain growers and livestock producers to rehabilitate marginal cropland, establish valuable perennial cover and implement beneficial management practices that strenghten soil health, biodiversity and farm resilience.

Loblaw’s vital support will also enhance DUC’s capacity to deliver impactful conservation outcomes that benefit both the agricultural economy and the healthy ecosystems on which it depends.

What this Partnership is Working Toward

Loblaw Companies Limited and Ducks Unlimited Canada have come together to help restore and conserve acres on working farms that not only provide vital habitat, but deliver a broad range of environmental outcomes and ecosystem services across the prairie landscape. By safeguarding and enhancing these natural areas within agricultural operations, we help strengthen both farming systems and the ecosystems they rely on.

Acres enrolled in DUC sustainable ag programs support biodiversity on farms, improve soil structure and water infiltration, store more water and carbon, and reduce erosion, runoff and flooding. These benefits support producer economics and long term capacity, while contributing to cleaner water and better nutrient filtration. As these acres recover, they become powerful natural assets that enhance the resilience and productivity of surrounding cropland.

How DUC assists with conservation and sustainability on farms

Since 1938, DUC has been working on the ground with producers and industry to tailor sustainable, practical management programs and solutions that fit each unique farm’s operations.

Conservation solutions include programs to support a variety of needs and challenges, including:

Marginal Areas Program to help convert low yield acres into perennial forage;
Forage Conversion and Winter Cereals initiative that expands crop rotation choices;
Conservation easements that generate revenue from haying and grazing; and
DUC’s Ag Resource Tool that provides free high-detail satellite images of properities for reliable land management.
