In Donnacona, a retention pond has been transformed to promote biodiversity and provide a new space for the community.

A Major Acquisition for Water Quality

The latest 400-acre acquisition brings the total protected area in the upper Saint-Charles River watershed to 5,000 acres.

Wetlands work for us! They perform a multitude of ecological functions that benefit wildlife, plants, and people alike. Did you know, for example, that they help regulate water, thereby reducing the risk of flooding?

Here are some of the other functions they provide:

water filtration;
sediment retention and erosion control;
carbon storage;
shade and windbreaks;
landscape quality;
biodiversity;
ecological connectivity.
