A showcase of images that reveal the diversity and beauty of wetlands found across Canada

To celebrate World Wetlands Day 2025, Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) asked our supporters to submit photos of, and tell us about, their favourite wetland views. They did not disappoint. We received a total of 403 submissions that revealed the diversity and beauty of wetlands found across Canada. We also gained insight into the important role that wetlands play in your lives: from helping create cherished family memories, to providing birdwatching, photography, recreational and educational opportunities, or simply as natural spaces to soak in the tranquility of nature. The marsh around Boundary Bay Regional Park is home to a great abundance of ducks, geese, shorebirds, raptors and other birds. My photo was taken on an autumn evening, on the shores of Lake Saint-Pierre, during a training session with our young dog Billie. For me, this magnificent canvas represents the warm September evenings when we take the time to appreciate the present moment before winter sets in. Wetlands with very little water like these allow us to observe incredible flora and fauna during our outings. More than just good looks: wetlands do good work, too!

Wetlands are powerful multi-taskers, working quietly in the background of our lives to provide critical services that we can’t live without. Improving water quality, mitigating floods, supporting a rich variety of life and storing carbon are just some of the ways wetlands are at work for us, every day.
