North American Waterfowl Management Plan

For four decades, the North American Waterfowl Management Plan (NAWMP) has been a model for global conservation.

For four decades, the North American Waterfowl Management Plan (NAWMP) has been a model for global conservation

Since 1986, the United States, Canada, and Mexico have worked alongside state, provincial, tribal council, nonprofit and private partners to invest more than $6 billion in on-the-ground conservation. Together, these efforts conserved critical wetlands and associated habitats while helping increase waterfowl populations by 50% across the continent.

NAWMP’s strength lies in its coordinated approach: a continent-wide vision paired with local expertise and action.

United by the rallying cry “Conserving Habitat Together”, Ducks Unlimited Canada, Ducks Unlimited Inc., and Ducks Unlimited de México (DUMAC) collaborate to deliver lasting benefits for wetlands, wildlife and the communities that depend on them.

The 2024 NAWMP Update charts a forward-looking path that embraces the multiple benefits of habitat conservation and expanding partnerships to meet emerging challenges, from habitat loss and changing public values to evolving demands on land, water, and energy.
