Climate Action and Awareness Fund

Our science investigates the power and potential of wetlands to provide nature-based climate solutions.

We have long recognized the role that wetlands play in storing carbon and mitigating the effects of extreme weather events like floods and droughts. Now, thanks to new funding and an unprecedented collaborative effort between conservation, academic and government partners from across the country, we’re taking an even deeper dive into the science that demonstrates wetlands are a powerful climate mitigation tool.

About the Climate Action and Awareness Fund

The Climate Action and Awareness Fund is a federal government investment that will provide up to $206 million over five years to support Canadian-made projects that help to reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions. These projects will be critical as Canada continues to build a sustainable net-zero emissions economy by 2050.

We are proud to have leveraged significant funding from the Climate Action and Awareness Fund along with additional support from partners to help deliver three leading-edge research projects that will study the role of wetlands as nature-based climate solutions.
