Ducks Unlimited Canada - The Nation's Most Trusted and Respected Conservation
Organization
WINNIPEG, July 2 - Where there are ducks, there is Ducks Unlimited. And once again, the nation's oldest, and most trusted and respected conservation organization has completed a successful year of revitalizing habitat for a multitude of species.
Since 1938, Ducks Unlimited Canada has protected more than 18 million acres from coast-to-coast and provided homes for birds, mammals, fish, insects and a host of wetland species. During the 1995-96 fiscal year, DU secured a total of 158,000 acres and enhanced another 167,000 acres, exceeding the habitat goals set for the year.
DU fund-raisers banded together to raise over $11 million at 800 events which attracted 100,000 people. The effort was spearheaded by 7,000 volunteers and staff in 35 offices across the country. More good news can be found in DU's 1996 Annual Report which was released in Fredericton, New Brunswick during the organization's annual meeting.
The agenda included the appointment of new directors to the national board. They are Dr. Frank Baldwin of Lockport, Manitoba; John D. Eaton of Toronto, Ontario; Ronald J. Hicks of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Terry Lubzinski of Surrey, British Columbia; George Merry of Kingston, Ontario; Jamie Ross of Port Perry, Ontario and Dr. L.J. Mayeux of Marksville, Louisiana.
