Manitoba Business Leaders Raise Funds
for Environmental Education
Winnipeg MB, Feb. 19 – Manitoba business leaders yesterday donated more than $97,000 to environmental education at a fundraising event hosted by Manitoba's minister of natural resources, the Honourable Glen Cummings.
The funds will support education programs delivered through the Interpretive Centre at Oak Hammock Marsh, north of Winnipeg.
Two hundred leaders of business, industry and commerce in Manitoba gathered with Mr. Cummings for the third year to lend their financial support to the cause of environmental education.
More than half the gathered business leaders were chief executive officers. During the evening Ducks Unlimited Canada (DU) presented awards to Manitoba businesses that have demonstrated leadership in supporting environmental education.
The company's Conservation Education Award was presented to TransCanada PipeLines for support of a wetland and laboratory education program delivered to high school students at the Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre.
IKON Office Solutions received the Habitat Conservation Award for helping Ducks Unlimited reduce its printing and copying costs. IKON also supported DU's program of scientific research into wildlife habitat and its Greenwing program for youth education.
The annual Minister's Dinner is a dynamic forum for government, industry and non-profit sectors to partner in support of environmental education.
